Get Ready for the Bobcat Bash!​

​We’re thrilled to introduce the Bobcat Bash, the PTA’s new teen canteen event series! These fun-filled events are free for all students and will be an evening packed with fun activities and time to hang out with friends and classmates.​

​Here’s what’s planned:

Activities: Inflatable obstacle course, volleyball, cornhole, Kan-Jam, board games, crafts, bingo, music, Just Dance, and even an escape room for the 7th/8th graders.

Snacks and Drinks: Free for everyone! Popcorn, Philly Pretzel Factory, Chips, Cookies, and bottled water.

Location: Walter T. Bergen - we will utilize the gym, library, and cafeteria.​​

​Event Dates and Times:

• 5th & 6th Graders: Friday, January 31st, from 7:00–9:00 PM 

• 7th & 8th Graders: Friday, February 7th, from 7:00–9:00 PM

Permission Slip Required

All students must submit a permission slip to attend.

Students can pick up permission slips from the main office, you can download a copy, or parents can complete the form below. 

  • 5th/6th - Due by 1/22/25 - EXTENDING  DUE DATE TO 1/24/25

  • 7th/8th - Due by 1/29/25 - EXTENDING  DUE DATE TO 1/31/25

We Need Volunteers!

The PTA is looking for volunteers to help make this event a success. Volunteer roles include:

• Setting up before the event

• Checking in students

• Chaperoning different areas

• Handing out snacks and drinks

• Cleaning up afterward

• Donating Water or Snacks

Teen Canteen Permission Slip

PARENT CONSENT FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL TEEN CANTEEN PARTICIPATION - YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ADMITTED INTO THIS EVENT IF THIS FORM IS NOT COMPLETED.

  • You need to complete a separate form for each child.

By filling out this form, I permit my student to participate in the Teen Canteen at the Walter T. Bergen School on either:

  • Friday, JANUARY 31, 2025 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm for 5th/6th graders only.

  • Friday, FEBRUARY 7, 2025 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm for 7th/8th graders only.

I understand my student should treat all his/her peers and dance chaperones respectfully. I understand my student will wear appropriate dance attire, no clothing with holes, no clothing depicting negative messages, and no clothing that exposes undergarments or private areas.


I understand that this dance will be held at the middle school, and there will be a chaperone from my student’s school. I also understand that if there are any health or behavior issues related to my student, I will be asked to come pick them up from the event. Once students enter the dance, they cannot leave without parental permission.


I understand that my student should follow all school policies/rules that are in place during school hours.

The History behind Teen Canteens

During World War II, many cities and towns were trying to curb the growing juvenile delinquency problem resulting from a lack of recreational facilities for teenagers.

​

Naturally there was entertainment. There was always a jukebox or record player and a dance floor (there had to be space for dancing the Swing, Bop or Twist). Add in a pingpong table, plenty of Coca-Cola and you had yourself a teen canteen.
